The Science

In 2015, researchers at the University of California at San Diego published research concluding the lanosterol molecule can slow, halt and even reverse the aggregation of glycoproteins that cause cataracts. Unfortunately, the research also concluded a therapeutic dose of the insoluble lanosterol molecule could only be delivered by injection to the eye. That’s when a chemical engineer at the University of Maryland set out to solubilize lanosterol, making it bioavailable to the eye’s lens via an ophthalmic solution. The resulting formula is awaiting patent approval by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
